Erricos Ventouras

Erricos Ventouras was born in 1966. He got his Diploma in Engineering from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens in 1989 and the title of Doctor in Engineering from the same Department in 1994, on Biomedical Engineering. From 1991 till 1998 he worked as an electrical engineer, participating in R&D projects. From 1994 till 1998 he also worked in companies of the public and private sector in the field of telecommunications and biomedical engineering and as researcher at the University Research Institute of Computer and Communications of the National Technical University of Athens. From 1998 his permanent position is with the Department of Biomedical Engineering of the University of West Attica, where he is currently Professor. He has taught at Graduate Courses at the University of Patras, the University of Athens and the University of West Attica.

His research interests include biomedical signal acquisition and processing, computer-based diagnosis systems, machine learning, electro- and magneto-encephalography, neurological and behavioral monitoring, brain source imaging and computer-based examination systems. He cooperates with the Medical Signal and Image Processing Laboratory of his Department, as well as several research laboratories of the National Technical University of Athens and the Psychiatry Clinic of the Eginition Hospital of the University of Athens. He has 41 papers in international peer-reviewed scientific journals and over 160 scientific publications in book chapters, proceedings of international or national peer-reviewed congresses and national scientific magazines. He has more than 460 citations from other authors (self-citations of other authors excluded) to his scientific publications and his h-index is 12. He is reviewer in leading international scientific journals and congresses in the field of biomedical engineering, he was co-chair, member of the scientific committee and member of the program committee of international conferences, member of the editorial board of international journals and he has reviewed many national and international research projects. He was scientific leader of 5 completed European Union-funded research projects and additionally participated in 16 European Union or Greek Government-funded projects. He was Chair and Vice-Chair of his Department and member of the University Quality Assurance Unit. He was member of the Board of Directors of the Hellenic National Academic Recognition and Information Center and deputy member of the Board of Directors of the Hellenic State Scholarship Foundation, special counsel to the Minister of Education, Research and Religious Affairs on Higher Education matters and member of committees and working groups of the European Commission in Higher Education topics.
