In the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of West Attica, we’re committed to advancing the frontiers of healthcare through innovative research and interdisciplinary collaboration. Program Overview
Students have the opportunity to work alongside internationally recognized faculty members on projects in biomedical engineering and closely related fields. Each PhD program is tailored to individual research interests, with a focus on developing the skills necessary to address complex biomedical challenges.
Research Areas
We offer research opportunities across a wide range of biomedical engineering fields, including but not limited to:
- Biomedical Imaging and Signal Processing: Developing innovative imaging and signal processing techniques for improved diagnosis and treatment.
- Nanotechnology and Materials Science: Exploring nanoscale materials for therapeutic and diagnostic applications in medicine.
- Medical Devices and Instrumentation: Designing innovative devices that improve patient care, including diagnostic tools and therapeutic equipment tailored to specific medical needs.
- Biomechanics and Rehabilitation Engineering: Enhancing human health through better understanding of biomechanics and developing assistive technologies.
- Computational Biology and Bioinformatics: Applying computational approaches to understand biological data, including genomics and proteomics.
- Cheminformatics and Drug Design: Leveraging chemical information and artificial intelligence tools for drug discovery and development.
Admission Requirements
Prospective students should have a strong academic background in engineering, biology, chemistry, physics, or a related field. The application process includes submission of:
- A detailed CV/resume.
- Official academic transcripts.
- Two letters of recommendation.
- A statement of research interests.
- Proof of English proficiency (for non-native speakers).
Graduates from foreign Universities should have a master’s degree or equivalent recognized by the Hellenic National Recognition and Information Center (DOATAP). The level of English language knowledge should be at least of B2 level.
Tuitions
Our PhD program is tuition free.
Funding and Scholarships
The University of West Attica regularly offers scholarships to our PhD students, including stipends and research support. Funding is awarded on the basis of academic excellence, research potential, and departmental needs.
Studentships can also be provided by a variety of sources, including the Ηellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation, State Scholarships (IKY Fellowships) and fellowships from private Foundations (Bodosakis, Niarxos, Onassis, Leventis, etc).
