Dr. Evangelos Karvelas graduated as a Mechanical Engineer from the Department of Energy Technology at the Technological Educational Institute of Athens in 2009. In 2012, he obtained his Master’s degree from the School of Engineering at Heriot-Watt University (United Kingdom), and in 2019 he was awarded a PhD from the University of Thessaly, with his doctoral research focusing on “Magnetic navigation of particles in Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids”.
He has participated in the NanoTher project, aiming to develop a computational method for guiding nanoparticles through human blood vessels. He subsequently conducted postdoctoral research at Nazarbayev University (Kazakhstan) on the modeling of micropolar fluids. He then served as a postdoctoral research associate at the Thermo-Fluid Systems Laboratory of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of West Attica, focusing on “Magnetic navigation of nanoparticles in three-dimensional arterial networks of the human body”.
Dr. Karvelas has received scholarships for his postdoctoral research from the Hellenic Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs, the State Scholarships Foundation (IKY), and the University of Thessaly. He is currently funded for postdoctoral research at the University of Cyprus through the ONISILOS program and is also set to receive funding under the HORIZON-MSCA-2024-PF-01 call, with a project on the modeling of cold atmospheric plasma in cancer tumors.
His research proposals within the framework of the “Trust in Our Stars” program of the Ministry of Education and the 4th HFRI (ELIDEK) call for postdoctoral research support have received excellent evaluations.
Finally, he is the author of more than 28 scientific publications in international journals and conference proceedings, as well as one scientific monograph.
