Retired as Professor

He was born in 1954. He studied at the School of Chemical Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), 1972-1977. He prepared a doctoral dissertation at the same School, 1978-1982, with subject in the scientific research areas of Physical Chemistry, Electrochemistry and Materials Science/Nanomaterials. In 1983 he was awarded a doctorate in chemical engineering with an excellent grade. 1978-1983, parallel professional activity in other research subjects, higher and other education and free profession of chemical engineer. 1983-1985, served in the Navy. 1985-2014: (i) Postdoctoral researcher and scientific associate at the School of Chemical Engineering and School of Mining and Metallurgical Engineering NTUA. (ii) Professional activity: research, higher education (NTUA, Air Force Academy, School of Pedagogical and Technological Training, Technological Education Institute of Athens, Piraeus University of Applied Sciences (PUAS)), other education, free profession of chemical engineer (technical and technicοeconomic studies), evaluation of investment proposals, scientific and technical consultant in materials technology, materials recycling, etc. 2014-2018, Associate Professor at PUAS and from 2018 Professor at PUAS and at the University of West Attica (UNIWA). He has taught many theoretical and laboratory courses in undergraduate and postgraduate programs and guided theses, diploma theses and doctoral dissertations. Organized, implemented and taught at universities postgraduate seminars. Participated in the design, creation, organization, development and equipment of 7 training and research laboratories. He was head of Chemistry I, Chemistry II and Physical Chemistry laboratories at UNIWA and a founding member of established research laboratories.   

He has participated in several research funded projects and also guided other independent research topics. His specializations and research interests fall mainly in the scientific areas: (i) Physical Chemistry (chemical kinetics, catalysis, absorption, theoretical and applied electrochemistry, bio-electrochemistry, solid state physical chemistry, spectroscopy, thermodynamics, etc.), Materials and Nanomaterials, (iii) Inorganic Chemical and Electrochemical Technology, (iv) Physicochemical Processes, (v) Hydrometallurgy and (vi) Environment and Energy. He has collaborated with laboratories of the Schools of Chemical Engineering, Mining and Metallurgical Engineering, and Applied Mathematical and Physical Sciences of NTUA, of the Chemistry Department of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, etc. His authorial research work is summarized in 56 original publications in mostly high-level scientific peer reviewed journals and 32 papers in Greek and international conferences. In the vast majority of them, he is the lead researcher and the corresponding author. His published work has received international recognition with more than 1034 (Scopus) and 1509 (Google Scholar) citations (excluding self-citations) and, in the past, with the provision of more than 309 reprints of publications requested by scientists from foreign universities and other institutions. Some of his papers in journals and presentations in conferences were awarded. His authorial work also includes other articles, extensive studies, monographs, technical reports and many teaching essays. He has been a reviewer in more than 34 scientific journals, and has evaluated a large number of publications. Also, he has been an evaluator of research proposals. He has been a member of the editorial board of a scientific journal and invited to become member of the editorial board in numerous other journals. Most of his publications have received many positive and flattering reviews from reviewers, editors, other scientists of eminent prestige and academicians. In an international ranking of the top 2% of scientists based on recognized research evaluation indicators in 2020, he is included in a remarkable position among Greek scientists.

He holds a patent in the field of bio-electrochemistry. His research works results have found international technological and industrial applications. He gave several lectures by invitation with scientific, technological and social content. He was an evaluator of investment proposals at the Ministry of Development of Greece, member of the Board of Directors of the Training Scientific Center (S.A.) of Chemical Engineers, member of the Standing Committee on Materials of the Technical Chamber of Greece and member of the Scientific Committee of the Panhellenic Association of Chemical Engineers. He was an active member of various scientific, professional, local and cultural associations. He had various collaborations and activities of scientific, technological, social, environmental, educational, etc. content.
